Xi Jinping's New Era for China: Rowan Callick
Mr Rowan Callick, author, columnist and former China correspondent for The Australian and The Australian Financial Review speaks on the topic of President Xi Jingping’s New Era for China.
Mr Callick is introduced by Michael Shoebridge, Director of ASPI's Defence and Strategy program.
Donald Trump has captured all the headlines, but Xi Jinping is at the same time succeeding relentlessly in realising the New Era he has proclaimed for China - restructuring its party and governance, intensifying domestic control, and now ambitiously deploying its economic heft to gain international influence and to transform global institutions to better serve its own goals and worldview.
In this public address, Mr Callick discusses how Xi Jingping is seeking to entrench his legitimacy as unchallengeable ruler for the next decade or more, by leading the People's Republic into international leadership, with its governance becoming a global model.
