ASPI Presents: In conversation with Michael Outram APM, Commissioner of the Australian Border Force
While traveller numbers into Australia have plummeted in 2020, air and sea cargo has increased, placing extra pressure on Australian Border Force (ABF) screening processes. Covid-19 has not reduced the omnipresent threats of people smugglers, illegal fishing, terrorism, piracy, and the movement of prohibited goods such as narcotics. The pandemic has simply forced criminals to adapt their business models.
ABF Commissioner, Michael Outram APM, joined ASPI’s Executive Director, Peter Jennings in conversation to discuss how his agency has responded to this unprecedented challenge, and how the ABF has rapidly adapted itself to keep up with, and ultimately get ahead of, those who would do Australia harm.
