Dr Samantha Hoffman was a Senior Analyst at ASPI. Her work explores the domestic and global implications of the Chinese Communist Party’s approach to state security. It offers new ways of thinking about understanding and responding to China’s pursuit of artificial intelligence and big data-enabled capabilities to augment political and social control.

Dr Hoffman holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from the University of Nottingham (2017), an MSc in Modern Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford (2011), a BA in International Affairs from Florida State University (2010), and a BA in Chinese Language and Culture from Florida State University (2010).

Dr Hoffman’s analysis is widely sought after by governments across the world and media. She has publicly testified in the United States Congress, the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, and the European Parliament, including:
