Biography

Mikaela is an Assistant Director General in the Policy, Strategy and Engagement Division of the Australian Submarine Agency.

She previously worked as a senior adviser to the then Minister for Foreign Affairs covering the US Alliance, Indo-Pacific and the Russia/Ukraine conflict, and prior to that as a senior adviser to the then Minister for Defence covering capability, industry, international and strategic policy issues. She has held several roles in the Department of Defence including Director for US Alliance Policy and First Secretary (Defence) in the Embassy of Australia in Washington, DC. She spent five years providing policy advice on the United States, Japan and Papua New Guinea.

In addition to her public sector experience, Mikaela volunteered as the Chief Operating Officer at 180 Degrees Consulting—a world leading provider of consulting services for non-profits and social enterprises. She also founded Launch Education—a tuition school that specialised in helping students become proficient communicators. Mikaela graduated with Excellence from her Masters in Security and Defence Management from the University of New South Wales, and received First Class Honors for her Bachelor of International Studies at the University of Sydney. She has a Diploma in Oral Communication, and speaks French.
