Biography

Undersecretary Ignacio Briones Madriaga is a combat-tested military officer in the fields of infantry, psychological operations, intelligence, and special operations. His exploits in the field have brought him to the most far-flung areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. He has served as a member of our nation’s armed forces for 32 years.

Born in Angeles City, Pampanga, he now calls Bacolod City, Negros Occidental his “home”.   While he initially trained to become an Electrical Engineer, he entered the military service and was commissioned as an officer after graduating with the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988.

As a true warrior-scholar, he holds three master’s degrees: an M.B.A. from the Ateneo de Manila University; a Master of Management Degree from the University of South Wales, Australia; and a Master of Arts in Strategic Security Studies from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.. Aside from completing a course in International Security and Combatting Terrorism, he also specializes in Project Management, Acquisition Planning, Financial Management and Internal Auditing.

After retiring from the military service in 2020, he continued to serve the members of the military and defense community in various capacities. In August 2022, he was again called to serve the country as the Undersecretary for Strategic Assessment and Planning, Department of National Defense.

He is a happily married man to his wife of 30 years, Lourdes; and a proud father to his son, Alexander Jason.
