Gillian Savage is a senior fellow with the Northern Australia Strategic Policy Centre and the Deputy Director of the Professional Development Centre. Gill is a former senior executive in the Australian Public Service whose diverse career spans the national security, border protection, defence and wider government environments developing strategy and policy.
Through her public sector roles she developed and implemented biometrics for border control, enhanced air passenger analysis, and drove digital transformation and secure ICT infrastructure. Gill has a strong interest in place based policy and strategy which came to the fore during her work on Norfolk Island Reform.
Her extensive experience in business and people strategy, organisational capability and digital transformation has improved services, and enhanced leadership and people capability across government. Gill’s many years of experience in management consulting has transformed public sector organisations, lifted workforce capability and established-future ready ICT and cyber strategy.
Gill is an experienced board member having held board positions in the government, not for profit and private sectors. She was an independent member of the National Archives of Australia Executive Board and until recently she was an appointed non-executive director (and Chair Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee) for a national sporting organisation. Gill is a current board member of the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers.
She has a strong interest in gendered and family violence and the relationship with extremism and disenfranchised sectors of the community. Gill is a previous UN Women Empowerment Champion and has held the roles of Disability Champion, Indigenous Champion and Defence Reserves Champion.
Gill is a Graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an Executive Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand School of Government, and holds a Master of Business Administration in International Business.
