WDSN Careers Panel: Counterterrorism and intelligence in-focus

ASPI’s Women in Defence and Security Network (WDSN) is delighted to invite you to an online careers panel focused on careers in counterterrorism and intelligence.

The panel will explore career pathways and the diverse opportunities available in the fields of counterterrorism and intelligence. They will share some of their experiences working across different sectors including research, government and cyber, and answer questions from the online audience.

Join panellists Katja Theodorakis, Head of ASPI’s Counterterrorism Program; Lydia Khalil, Research Fellow, Lowy Institute; Research Associate, Alfred Deakin Institute at Deakin University; Karly Winkler, Senior Analyst with ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre; and Sylvia Laksmi, PhD Candidate at the Australian National University for a conversation with ASPI’s Anastasia Kapetas, about their career experiences in counterterrorism or intelligence, and what makes this an interesting field to pursue a career.

While WDSN is focused on supporting women in the defence, foreign policy and security communities, we welcome any individuals interested in participating in this online event.

Lydia Khalil

Lydia Khalil is a Research Fellow at the Lowy Institute and the Alfred Deakin Institute at Deakin University and a member of the Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies. 

Katja Theodorakis

Katja Theodorakis was the Head of ASPI's Counterterrorism program until early 2023.

Karly Winkler

Karly was the Deputy Director of ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre during 2022 and is currently at the Harvard Kennedy School as a Recanati-Kaplan fellow for Intelligence and Security.

Sylvia Laksmi

Sylvia Laksmi, an Indonesian national, is a renowned subject‑matter expert in the field of anti‑money‑laundering and counter‑terrorism‑financing.

Anastasia Kapetas

Anastasia was the National Security Editor at The Strategist, leaving that role in July 2022.
