Report Launch: Taking Australian Diplomacy Digital

ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre is delighted to invite you to the launch of its latest Policy Brief ‘Taking Australian Diplomacy Digital’. The report will be launched by Senator the Hon Marise Payne, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

In 2010 Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) was nicknamed a digital ‘dinosaur’ for its lack of online presence. A lot has changed over the last 8 years and DFAT now has a global digital diplomacy presence across multiple social media platforms and hundreds of accounts.

But a new report from ASPI’s International Cyber Policy Centre has found that while there have been significant improvements, the department could still do more to persuade, influence and advocate online. Author Dave Sharma, Australia’s former Ambassador to Israel, will offer suggestions for DFAT to engage in statecraft playing out across the cyber and information domains, and outline ways in which the Australian Government can better use cyberspace to advance Australia’s global interests.
