Speakers President Tsai Ing-wen, Peter Jennings, Chen-wei Lin, Samantha Hoffman and Dr Mark Harrison

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) is delighted to host our inaugural Indo-Pacific Leaders Dialogue session to discuss the future of Taiwan, featuring a keynote address from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.

President Tsai Ing-wen will deliver the keynote address, which will be followed by a live panel discussion with:

  • Peter Jennings, Executive Director, ASPI
  • Dr Chen-wei Lin, CEO, INDSR
  • Dr Mark Harrison, Senior Lecturer Politics and International Relations, University of Tasmania
  • Dr Samantha Hoffman, Analyst, ASPI

The discussion will reflect the themes of the address as well as examine the President’s answers to five questions posed by ASPI, covering Taiwan’s Covid-19 experience, the One China policy, self defence, independence or reunification, and risks of future conflicts.

President Tsai Ing-wen

Born in 1956 in Taipei City, Tsai Ing-wen traces her family roots to Fangshan Township of Pingtung County in southern Taiwan.

Peter Jennings

Peter Jennings is a Senior Fellow and was the executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) from May 2012 to May 2022.

Chen-wei Lin

Dr. Chen-wei Lin (林成蔚) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR).

Samantha Hoffman

Dr Samantha Hoffman is a Senior Analyst at ASPI. Her work explores the domestic and global implications of the Chinese Communist Party’s approach to state security.

Dr Mark Harrison

Dr Mark Harrison is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies at the University of Tasmania in the Politics and International Relations Program in the School of Social Sciences.
