William Leben was an Analyst in ASPI’s Defence, Strategy and National Security program, working principally within the Climate and Security Policy Centre until Dec 2022.
Will has broad professional and academic research interests, including in future war, climate change, energy and geopolitics, and political violence. He has previously written on the future of the Australia-NATO relationship after Afghanistan, Australia’s colonial history in Papua and New Guinea, and the future of the Australian Army.
Will is an Australian Army officer on secondment to ASPI. He has served in several armoured corps regimental appointments and deployed to Iraq. He was a 2019 General Sir John Monash Foundation Scholar, completing an MPhil in Development Studies at Oxford, and holds a BA (First Class Honours) from UNSW.
