Sofia works on international security and terrorism at ASPI.
Current research interests include security and politics in the MENA region, women and violent extremism and gender security.
Prior to joining ASPI, Sofia worked at a number of think tanks in the UK such as RUSI, Demos and Quilliam, researching and writing on existing and emerging security threats such as Islamist terrorism and far right populism. Sofia also worked as an intelligence analyst for the defence company QinetiQ, on security and defence issues including terrorist and government use of information operations.
Sofia holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Manchester in Spanish and Arabic and a post-graduate MA from SOAS University in London in Middle Eastern politics.
