Biography
Mon Zin is a founding member of Global Myanmar Spring Revolution, and a member of Women Activists Myanmar (WAM) & Myanmar Diasporas Community (Sydney).
Mon migrated to Australia from Yangon, Myanmar as a teenager with her parents and siblings in 1996. Her ancestors were the victims of the Military dictatorship when all the physical assets including oil refineries in Yay Nan Chaung owned by her grandfather were confiscated after 1962 March coup because of the nationalization of Burma’s major economic enterprises by General Nay Win. Her father was also a student activist during the U Thant uprising (U Thant’s funeral crisis), and he was one of the students guarding the mausoleum of U Thant on the night of December 10, 1974. Mon as a child had also participated in the public protest with her mother during 1988 uprising while her father oversaw the crowd control for the protest.
Since February 2021 coup, Mon has organised several activities such as the “Global Myanmar Spring Revolution (GMSR),” the 1st Australian wide & Global wide public protest on Myanmar, a hybrid press conference in Paris for “Blood Money Campaign,“ and involved in many other movements to advocate for human rights in Myanmar. Mon is also passionate about the mental health care and awareness for the people in Myanmar, especially for the Myanmar women and she is one of the founders of Heart Beams Foundation, which is currently progressing towards supporting psychosocial support for people inside Myanmar, collaborating with Anti-Hate Movement & MyPsyche4Life. Mon lives in Sydney, and as a profession, she is a qualified CPA accountant graduated from University of Western Sydney with B. Business (Accounting) sub major in Law. She is currently studying Master of Applied Finance at Macquarie University and work full time as a Group Finance Manager. Most importantly, she is a mother of two beautiful girls.
