The Hon Dr Billy M Joseph MP is the Papua New Guinean Minister for Defence and Deputy Party Leader of the Social Democratic Party. He was first elected in 2022 to PNG’s 11th parliament, serving as the Member for Nipa Kutubu Open Electorate.

In September 2022, Dr Joseph was appointed Deputy Chairman of Economic Affairs and a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Law and Order, Public Works and Public Accounts. Prior to entering politics, he worked in various hospitals across PNG.

Dr Joseph holds a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Papua New Guinea School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
