Biography

Clare O’Neil is the Federal Member for Hotham and has served as Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Cyber Security in the Albanese Government since 2022. As Minister, Clare’s aim is to fix our broken migration system and to ensure Australia is a world leader in cyber security by 2030. In 2023, she released Migration and Cyber Security Strategies which set Australia on the course to achieve these goals. Clare was first elected in 2013 by one of Australia’s most diverse and multicultural electorates, located in south east Melbourne. Before entering federal parliament, Clare was a former mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong. Clare is the co-author of “Two Futures: Australia at a Critical Moment”, with fellow MP, Tim Watts. Clare holds a double degree from Monash University and has also attended Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar, where she graduated with a Masters of Public Policy.
