Nicole Curato is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra.
She has published reports on the micropolitics of disinformation in the Philippines and has advocated for democratic innovations that can address the prevalence of 'fake news' during elections. She is the author of the prize-winning book Democracy in a Time of Misery (2019, Oxford University Press) and editor of the Duterte Reader: Critical Essays on Rodrigo Duterte's Early Presidency (2017, Cornell University Press).
