Dr James Renwick AM CSC SC was Australia’s 3rd Independent National Security Legislation Monitor.

Dr Renwick is a leading expert on the law concerning national security, cyber, counter terrorism and countering foreign interference. He edited a special edition of the Australian Law Journal on these topics. He has taught part time at the ANU for over a decade.

He was a Fulbright Scholar at SAIS, JHU. He practices at the NSW Bar as Senior Counsel. In 2023 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia (General Division) for significant service to the Law and to National Security. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales and the Australian Academy of Law.
