Biography

Angela Fitzsimons is the New Zealand Government Representative at the Australian Civil Military Centre (ACMC), which is administered by the Australian Defence Department, and is based near Canberra. 

The New Zealand Government provides the Deputy Executive Director Role at the ACMC, and Angela took this role in February 2020, on secondment from the New Zealand Defence Force.

Angela retired from the New Zealand Army in 2020 as a Colonel.  She has recently completed a year long appointment as the head of military intelligence in the UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).  Prior to that she served in the UN Headquarters, New York as the Chief of the Assessment Team in the Office of Military Affairs.  Besides Mali, she has deployed to Syria (2012), Afghanistan (2006), Timor Leste (2002), Bougainville (1998) and Bosnia (1995).

During her military career she has served mainly as an intelligence officer and was the Director of Defence Intelligence for three years in Wellington. 

Angela has a Master of International Relations from Victoria University, Wellington and is a graduate of French Command and Staff College (College Interarmees de Defense).  She has studied extramurally at the Sorbonne, completing a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies.  She has a BA in French from Canterbury University.
