It sets out reasons why PME is crucial to Australian security and outlines some recent criticisms of the system. It also examines the organisational, personnel and pedagogic challenges that all PME systems must deal with. Further it analyses the principal institutions that provide PME in Australia. The paper includes a series of recommendations.
